XOXO Outpost Closing Its Doors

XOXO founders Andy Baio and Andy McMillan announced the Outpost is shuttering at year's end:

The Outpost is home to a rich and diverse community of writers, game designers, filmmakers, cartoonists, musicians, creative coders, and more. Everyone pays only what they can afford—an experiment made possible by the support of our patrons.

Unfortunately, we aren’t immune to Portland’s rising costs. We learned earlier this year that our landlord planned to double the rent in 2017, and despite our best efforts, we were unable to negotiate a long-term lease we could afford.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the Outpost will close its doors at the end of the year.

Sad news. I loved attending the last three XOXO Festivals in Portland. It's a wonderful city, and I've made many friends and learned so much listening to speakers, sharing experiences, etc. I'm bummed there won't be a 2017 edition, but I respect why The Andys feel like they need a break. Here's hoping XOXO returns in 2018 in some form.
