On Vesper

John Gruber, in announcing the app’s launch on Daring Fireball:

Six months ago Brent Simmons, Dave Wiskus, and I formed a new company, Q Branch, and went to work on an iPhone app. Today we shipped.

Vesper is a simple and elegant tool for collecting your thoughts. I’ve been using it all day, every day for months now. I think you’ll like it.

I hit the App Store immediately after hearing about it — definitely worth the $5.

My first impressions of Vesper:

  • The icon is my favorite of all 110 apps on my iPhone.
  • The typeface and general UI is just lovely. You can tell every pixel was meticulously considered. Nice to look at and feels good to use.
  • The Credits are cool, most notably because of the Vesper recipe at the bottom.

I’m tentatively planning to write up some thoughts on the app after more extended use, but in the meantime, be sure to check out Federico Viticci’s review for MacStories, as well as Marco Arment’s smart take. Both pieces are terrific reads.
