In the wake of Mark Sanchez's benching, some miscelleaneous thoughts on the Jets:
- The Jets are grossly overrated, most likely because they play in New York. Every year they’re picked by pundits to challenge for the AFC crown, yet they always fall short. A sexy pick, to be sure, but there’s no real substance. The Jets are loaded with talent individually, but as a team they suck. And yet, with each year comes the same rhetoric: they’re contenders. Bullshit.
- The Mark Sanchez Era should be over. Again, being in the biggest market there is, pundits like to talk him up like he’s at or at least near the threshold of elitism when it comes to NFL quarterbacks. I don’t see it. I don’t know who could or should replace him; all I’m saying is I believe Sanchez is no longer the long-term answer as the Jets’ starting QB.
- Rex Ryan should go, as should the GM. I think Ryan is one of those coaches who excels in a specific domain (e.g., as a defensive coordinator) but has trouble as the main guy in charge of everything. That he coaches in New York and has a big mouth doesn’t do him any favors either.
- And no, I don’t have to be a Jets fan in order to say these things. I’ve watched the team enough during national games that I’m comfortable saying that I think they suck. The team needs to be blown up and reassembled.
