Today I'm announcing a little project: I'm launching a monthly email newsletter.
It's experimental, but I want to try it out and see where it goes. The main impetus for starting this is I get asked a lot by people on Twitter and in email—as well as family and friends—about what I'm doing in terms of my writing. Be it my freelance work or my work on this site, I'm often fielding questions about what's new and what's in the pipeline. Instead of a million Facebook updates or Twitter replies, I fugured I'd do a newsletter and point people to it.
While the newsletter may not become super popular, it's worth a shot nonetheless. Although my freelance work is widely known amongst those in the Apple/tech journalism racket, this site still is small. But it's grown some since getting into Apple News over the summer, and I want to invest more into publishing here—whether creatively or professionally. Steven's Blog is where I wrote and shared things long before I became a journalist; I don't want it to fall by the wayside as my career moves and grows. Put simply, it's a huge part of my online identity and my "brand."
I don't have a magic number or other metric for success for this. I think of it as a fun little side project that keeps me in touch with readers (and family and friends) who wonder what I'm doing and what's next.
The first issue will go out Wednesday, November 30. Subsequent issues will be delivered to your inbox at the end of every month.
