I’ve always understood the no-comments point of view, especially for really popular blogs. More readers means more stupid readers, and more stupid readers means more stupid comments sullying your site.
I’ve found this to be especially true on the big-name tech sites (cf. CNET), but it’s also becoming more prevalent on Facebook1 as well. In fact, yesterday I watched the comments about a friend’s status update go from innocent to incendiary in no time. Sad.
Which goes to show that comments, in general, suck. (And moderating them sucks even more.) ↩
