Adii Pienaar, in a thoughtful little piece on being yourself:
It’s hard to consistently just be yourself when you are being pulled in so many different directions. But that’s also why it’s the ultimate compliment when you do the things that are true to yourself.
So if you’re designing something today, design it with your signature style. Write every line of code in the pursuit of solving the problem you’re faced with in your own way. Lead and follow by being true to yourself.
Most importantly: Live your life in your own, unique way.
The best compliment I’ve received over my freelance work has been that my pieces are not only thoughtful and expertly written, but that they’re genuine. I put a whole lot of heart into everything I write because when it comes to accessibility, I’m the target demographic. Being disabled is a part of who I am, and I think it shows. I don’t like using my disabilities as a crutch for anything, but I know I have limitations, unfortunately. It is what it is, and I can't do anything to change things.
This site, too, is a reflection unto myself. My design tastes, my content. I created this site to look how I wanted, and I write about what I want, regardless of outside opinion.
Meet me in person or read my words, you’ll get me every time.
